Arrested

As news of the arrest was shared widely on social media, online sleuths then allegedly traced and found out the identity of the driver.

The online sleuths posted screen shots of the Facebook page allegedly belonging to the arrested driver:

Other photos showed cropped images of what looked like the same person posing beside the black Maserati with the same license plate.

The screen shots were initially shared by the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page, but was subsequently removed in about one hour of being publicly visible.

However, the same screen shots can still be found on online forums.

Mothership understands that the driver is a professor from the Department of Geography from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences in the National University of Singapore.

Details from the professor's public profile posted on NUS's website match the age of the arrested man as released by the police.

In response to Mothership's media queries, NUS and the police issued the following statements:

NUS:

An NUS spokesperson said: “As this is a traffic incident, it would be best to refer to the Police for the details.”

Police:

A police spokesperson said: “The Police confirmed a report was lodged. The car driver, a 49-year-old man, has been arrested for dangerous driving and investigations are ongoing.”
