A 22-year-old local restaurant is closing and its owner wants to sell her family's secret recipes for S$300,000.
Located at Selegie Road
Singapura Restaurant is known for its specialty Foochow dishes, such as Singapura Cold Crab, Juicy Honey Pork Ribs, Red Wine Chicken Soup, and Crispy Prawn Rolls.
But the family-run restaurant is closing down on July 29, 2018.
This was reported by Shin Min Daily News on July 25, 2018.
Owner selling 10 recipes
The lady owner, Zheng Li Ying, took over the managing of the restaurant from her late father.
She is now offering 10 of her family's specialty recipes to interested investors.
According to SMDN, the owner is selling them for S$300,000.
The reason for the sale is because Zheng does not want her family's recipes to go to waste, now that the restaurant is closing down.
These specialty dishes include the Crispy Prawn Rolls, Honey Pork Ribs, and Singapura Cold Crab.
She said:
"Singapura Cold Crab is one of our specialty dishes. We have many requests for it -- even from tourists from Taiwan and Japan and celebrities. By selling the recipes, I hope to pass on my father's legacy and skills. I hope that interested persons will contact us."
According to Zheng, her father, Zheng Shui Guan, was known as the Founder of Singapura Cold Crab. He came up with the dish in the 1970s.
Zheng senior was born in Jin'an district of Fu Zhou city in what was formerly known as Foochow, China.
From the age of 12, he learnt how to pound rice to make flour for prawn fritters. He came to Singapore at the age of 15 and found work in the food and beverage industry.
Zheng said:
"From working at a canteen stall, my father amassed enough investment to open a Foochow restaurant at Roxy Square. In 1962, he rented the bottom floor of Selegie House at 9 Selegie Road from the government. He sublet it to someone else to operate the Sinchew Nightclub before taking it back again in 1996 to open Singapura Restaurant."

Another Chinese eatery taking over space
According to SMDN, the 60-year-old Zheng wants to lead her own life after 20 years of working. She also added that both her sons have their own jobs, and hence, are unable to take over the business.
Fortunately, Zheng managed to find a business to take over the space:
"Earlier in June, a couple approached us, after being introduced by a regular customer. They expressed interest in renting the restaurant from us to sell Chinese dishes. I felt that they were very sincere so I decided to transfer the rental contract to them for less than S$500,000. The restaurant will close on this weekend of July 29."
