It appears that Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is following the ordeals of the 12 Thai boys and their football coach quite closely, like the rest of us in Singapore.

Within hours of learning that all of those trapped had been successfully rescued from the Tham Luang cave, PM Lee expressed his relief and delight with the good news on his Facebook page.

Saga has "touched many around the world"

PM Lee said that the complex high-risk rescue mission, made up of Thai and international divers, was a "remarkable display of the strength of the human spirit".

He added that it was "an inspiring tale of what different nations and groups can achieve by working together", adding that the saga has touched many around the world.

PM offered assistance to the Thai government

PM Lee had taken active interest in the ordeal, first commenting on the saga five days ago.

In his earlier post, PM Lee revealed that he had written to Thai PM Prayut Chan-o-cha to commend the Thai government’s efforts, and to offer Singapore’s assistance.

Recovery in time for World Cup

On a lighter note, PM Lee also wished the football team and their coach a smooth and quick recovery, and hope that they will be in time to witness the World Cup final this Sunday.

In fact, FIFA president Gianni Infantino had invited those rescued to attend the World Cup final in Moscow later this month.

Might not be able to attend finals

But the doctors are not taking any chances.

"They can watch on TV", a doctor at the hospital told the reporters on Tuesday morning.
