All in good fun.

Food is always a contentious topic.

But what's important is that we can agree to disagree, and then have a good laugh about it.

Singapore cannot make Nasi Lemak properly?

In a video that featured stand-up comedian Joanne Kam's routine, she jokes about the differences between Nasi Lemak in Singapore and Malaysia.

Kam's routine was met with roaring laughter and applause from members of the audience.

Here were the points raised:

1. Too neatly arranged

Kam said, "It's not that their Nasi Lemak is not nice... It's just that, have you seen the Singapore Nasi Lemak?"

Unlike Nasi Lemak in Malaysia, she said described how the rice and ingredients (e.g. fish fillet, sausage, egg, ikan bilis etc.) are arranged "very [neatly], like Singapore."

She also attributed it to the fact that Singaporeans cannot eat the Nasi Lemak if it's messy.

2. S'pore cannot make Nasi Lemak properly

Kam also joked that the amount of sambal given in Singapore is dismal — about the size of a 50-cent coin.

And because Singapore cannot make Nasi Lemak properly as a dish, "[we] make Nasi Lemak burger."

Incredulous, she also exclaimed:

"And then they want to claim the Nasi Lemak is theirs?"

Uploaded to publicise event

The video was originally uploaded by LOL Events, a Malaysian company that organises comedy events, to publicise the Comedy Central Stand-up event happening in Kuala Lumpur this weekend (July 7).

Since it was uploaded on July 5, the video has gotten over 150,000 views and over 3,000 shares.

Some netizens not impressed

In the comments section of the video, there were some netizens who did not find the content funny.

For instance, one even took the time to rebuke many of the points that she raised:

There were a few, however, who pointed out that it is a small matter to get angry over:

In fact, many Singaporean netizens took it in their stride and even laughed along.

One interpreted what she said as a compliment as she called Singaporeans "neat people," while another said that she is a Singaporean who can appreciate the occasional joke about Singapore.

One commenter also remarked that Kam's routine was a parody, and the bigger point of it was to take a jab at how uptight Singaporeans can be.
