Singaporeans love spicy food, but even the bravest diner might take a step back when confronted with these hot buns.

Chix Hot Chicken is a new outlet offering "Nashville-style" fried chicken at 1 Jalan Pisang.

A specialty of the southern U.S. state of Tennessee, the process involves frying marinated chicken and applying generous coats of hot sauce paste, laced with cayenne peppers.

The chicken is then served with white bread and pickles.

But Chix Hot Chicken takes it to the next level by also using ghost chilli peppers, one of the most burning substances known to man.

Ghost peppers are 400 times hotter than Tabasco Sauce and rack up a score of 1 million Scoville Heat Units.

Mutual love

The man behind these crazy hot chicken dishes is none other than Singapore Idol winner Taufik Batisah.

A co-founder of Chix Hot Chicken, Taufik teamed up with Bober Ismail, who previously owned the now-defunct restaurant, Life is Beautiful.

In an interview with 8 Days, Bober explained how he had enjoyed the southern fried chicken he ate during a trip to the U.S.

This led him to introduce it as a menu item at his own restaurant, where Taufik fell in love with it too.

There are three levels of "Hotness" -- Mild, Extra or Insane.

You can eat it in the traditional Nashville style with bread and pickles, or have a chicken burger with fries.

Either way, make sure you have plenty of water.

Chix Hot Chicken are open Tuesdays to Saturdays, from 12 noon until 9:00 pm or when stocks run out.
