Motorists entering Malaysia will soon only need to pay toll charges when they leave Malaysia, and not upon entering.

Enter and leave M'sia faster

The change means that even if they do not have enough money in their Touch 'n Go cards, they will be allowed to enter Malaysia.

They can then top up their cards within Malaysia before leaving the country.

The delays caused by motorists who leave their lanes to reload their cards to pay the toll will supposedly be reduced.

If their cards do not hold enough money when leaving Malaysia, they will still be able to top up their cards, but not without a penalty.

Democratic Action Party state assemblyman Andrew Chen said in a Facebook post on Thursday (June 29) that the change is to reduce congestion at the land crossings between Singapore and Malaysia and make the clearance process go smoother.

Motorists will be informed of the change by large signs at the Johor Bahru Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex (CIQ).

However, no date for the implementation of the change has been given yet.
