The heat is on.

The Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) has received 259 complaints against oBike within a day, as of June 26, 4pm.

This was after oBike announced it has suddenly closed down in Singapore on June 25.

Case wrote in its first Facebook post that the complaints are from consumers who were unable to recover their S$49 deposit.

This was followed by a second Facebook post to update the number of complaints lodged:

Case said it will follow up with oBike on this matter.

Consumers with unresolved disputes are urged to contact Case for further assistance at 6100 0315 or via www.case.org.sg.

Police report

It is understood that some consumers are turning to the police for help.

According to Channel News Asia, one oBike user has made a police report after the oBike app did not detect internet connection and no refund could be processed.

The oBike user said the app indicated that he paid a S$49 deposit, but the refund button was not there.

“I have not received any news from oBike on how they will be refunding us. So I’ve made a police report,” said the IT engineer.

Legal advice

Local legal advice page, Singapore Legal Advice, wrote a post advising users who want to get their money back to file a proof of debt with oBike's liquidator.

However, the odds of getting a refund is low.

The page wrote:

Before oBike can wind up its business here (and it seems likely that they will), they’ll have to repay parties they owe money to. Yep, that includes you! So if you see a notice in the papers that oBike is winding up, you can file a “proof of debt” with oBike’s liquidator to declare that oBike owes you money which you want back.

Sadly though, your claim may be waaaayyyyy down their “List of People We Need to Repay” if they owe larger creditors money. If so, they might not have enough to repay you after repaying all those big boys
