North Korean state television aired a 42-minute documentary on Thursday, June 14 that essentially showed Singapore and the United States fawning over their leader Kim Jong-un.

From what can be seen, Korean Central Television got down to work very quickly producing this piece of propaganda within two days of the June 12 summit's conclusion.

Footage places Kim as centre of universe

Footage taken of the entire duration of the summit between Kim and US president Donald Trump -- from the lead-up beginning on June 10 with the leaders' arrival in Singapore to their eventual departure -- were spliced and edited in such a way that the whole event revolved around North Korea's Supreme Leader.

Did Singapore wittingly or unwittingly play into Kim's propaganda machine?

Who cares because it was a complete coup for the North Koreans as everything they shot was video gold.

In a voice-over, North Korea's famous newsreader Ri Chun Hee even said the size of the crowd of people who appeared on the streets to catch a glimpse of Kim was “unprecedented” for Singapore.

St Regis suite

The footage also included Kim in his S$12,000-a-night St Regis presidential suite, with a bevy of minders at this beck and call:

Kim the performer

Kim, it has to be noted, is a consummate professional who knows how to strike the right poses.

His demeanour, for the most part in Singapore, was relaxed and all smiles, and he performed for the camera by oozing charm when out and about at night to visit Gardens By The Bay and Marina Bay Sands -- flanked by Singaporean minders.

New footage

The entire documentary also showed many previously never-before-seen footage shot from Kim's personal entourage of media.

These scenes include the multi-vehicle convoy travelling down Singapore's cleared roads and the palatial setting of Istana.

Kim's night visit around Singapore also included a trip to one of the ports.

Kim's rehearsed body language

How good was Kim's performance? Superb.

His entire demeanour changed the moment he touched down in North Korea again.

Here, he is all smiles when in front of foreigners:

But he became po-faced and lost that cherubic chuckle the moment he is in front of his subjects upon arriving in North Korea after the summit ended.

Kim bigger than Trump

The biggest propaganda victories are still the shots with Kim treated as more than an equal to Trump:

Regarding Trump's salute of a foreign military figure, it has resulted in outrage and embarrassment back home in America.

When the same military figure pulled off the salute greeting with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, our PM did not return the salute but only extended a hand.

Viewed in its entirety, the North Korean-produced documentary might not match our own experience and understanding of the entire event.

But just imagine this is what North Koreans by and large have to get by with.
