Haritts Donuts & Coffee ハリッツ, a famous Japanese donut place in Tokyo, is now available in Singapore.
Via Facebook.
The tiny cafe, which opened in May 2018, sells donuts which aren't your typical run-of-the-mill kind.
They are chewy (some say mochi-mochi), fluffy, and denser than your average donut. Plus, they are reportedly not oily at all.
Haritts has 40 different flavours in their arsenal, but about 10 flavours are produced daily.
Here's a sample of the flavours available at the Singapore outlet. This is a non-exhaustive list:
- Original ($1.90)
- Cinnamon Currants ($2.20)
- Chocolate ($2.90)
- Cream Cheese ($3.20)
- Earl Grey ($2.50)
- Matcha ($2.70)
- Raspberry White Choco ($2.70)
- Orange ($2.50)
- Houjicha ($2.50)
- Kaya ($2.70)
Fermented dough for unique texture
The reason for its unique texture lies in the way the donuts are made.
The dough is fermented two to three times depending on temperature and humidity. After being shaped into donuts, they are then fried for five minutes at a low temperature.
Lastly, the donuts are blotted to remove excess oil before being dusted with powdered sugar.
The tedious process means that it takes about two hours to produce a batch of 60 donuts.
In response to Mothership's queries, Haritts Singapore said that they produce about 300 donuts each day, similar to the volume produced at their Taiwan and Tokyo outlets.
They also mentioned that their donuts tend to be sold out before 5.30pm each day, so if you're intending to get some donuts, do head down earlier.

Origins in Tokyo, Japan
Haritts started out as a mobile van business in Tokyo, Japan in 2004 and subsequently expanded to Taichung and Taipei.
The store opened its Singapore branch at Havelock II, across the road from Furama City Centre and Hong Lim Park (near Clarke Quay MRT).
Do note that there is hardly any space in the cafe to sit and enjoy your donut, so it might be better for takeaways.
Not-too-sweet fillings, according to reviews
Most people praised Haritts Singapore for having fresh, soft, and fluffy donuts — in particular, the cream cheese donut seems to be a crowd favourite.
Many people also enjoyed the not-so-sweet fillings which would definitely please the health-conscious or those in the War-Against-Diabetes brigade.
