About 100 residents evacuated after massive HDB fire in President Halimah Yacob's old Yishun estate

It could have happened anywhere.

According to a viral Facebook video lasting about 16 minutes, a massive fire broke out in an apartment on the fourth floor of block 663 Yishun Avenue 4 on Sunday morning (June 24).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to it at about 7am.

Fire engulfed living room, kitchen & 2 bedrooms

The fire involved the contents of the flat's living room, kitchen and two bedrooms.

The bright orange flames and thick black smoke required the SCDF to dispatch two fire engines, one Red Rhino, two fire bikes, one ambulance and three support vehicles.

The fire was extinguished using two fire jets.

2 residents in burning flat escaped first

About 100 residents of the 12-storey HDB block were evacuated as a safety precaution.

Thankfully, two Chinese men staying at the affected apartment had already escaped from the flat prior to the arrival of the SCDF.

However, the two men, who are in their 2os, still had to be sent to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital for smoke inhalation.

Speaking to Mothership, the SCDF additionally shared the following:

"SCDF is still investigating the cause of fire."

Fire happened in President Halimah's Yishun neighbourhood

The Facebook post has since garnered more than 500 reactions and 4,800 shares.

Of course, there were your regular responses asking if there were any casualties and where it happened.

However, some hawk-eyed individuals noticed that this fire happened to be in president Halimah Yacob's former neighbourhood.

Here's the SCDF's full statement shared with Mothership:

"SCDF received a call on a fire at about 7am at block 663 Yishun ave 4.

SCDF dispatched 2 fire engines, 1 red rhino 2 fire bikes one ambulance and 3 support vehicles.

The fire was extinguished using 2 water jets.

The fire involved the contest on the living room, kitchen and 2 bedrooms.

2 occupants had self-evacuated prior to SCDF’s arrival.

About 100 residents were told to evacuate as a safety precaution.

The 2 occupants are male Chinese in their 20s and they were conveyed to KTPH for smoke inhalation.

SCDF is still investigating the cause of the fire."
