S'pore man didn't receive meal from Foodpanda, buys ads on Facebook to get their attention

The food was apparently delivered to some girl.

A chicken schnitzel may just be an Austrian delicacy to ordinary people.

For one Hyder Albar, however, the fried chicken cutlet was a trigger for change.

App says food delivered, but customer didn't receive

On June 13, Hyder shared in an open letter to Foodpanda's managing director Luc Andreani that he was not feeling well and was craving for some chicken schnitzel and thus, decided to order it via Foodpanda.

Hyder said that he received a notification saying that the food had already been delivered but he did not receive anything and was still charged for the undelivered meal.

Bent over backwards just to get their number

Here's what allegedly happened after he discovered the discrepancy in his order:

  • Hyder tried to reach out to a Foodpanda personnel via the live chat feature in the app but according to him, the app glitched and he was automatically disconnected from his account for up to five times.
  • Initially, he wanted to leave a comment on their Facebook page but realised it wouldn't work after seeing the slew of equally negative comments on their posts:

  • He called Growlers Restaurant and Bar, the eatery where he ordered his food from, and was told that the food had been collected by a Foodpanda rider and helped him by giving Foodpanda's corporate number.
  • Hyder called the corporate number and told Shanti, a Foodpanda employee, about his situation.
  • At first, she said she couldn't do anything but after further persuasion, Shanti helped by contacting the rider and was told that a girl had received the food instead.
  •  Shanti then referred Hyder back to the live chat function.

This whole fiasco took about two hours.

Spent S$120 on Facebook ads to reach out to managing director

Now, most people would just give up and grumble hungrily.

But at this point, Hyder was already invested in his crusade to understand what actually is going on with Foodpanda that he tried to reach out to Luc Andreani, managing director of Foodpanda, by sending a friend request on Facebook and LinkedIn.

(We understand that his requests, unfortunately, have not been accepted as of yet.)

Speaking to Mothership, Hyder said:

"At this point it's beyond the money and the food. Their service standards are deplorable and all I am asking for is to not respond to me using automated scripts."

Exposes Foodpanda's corporate number in hopes for change

Hyder also put up a video documenting his experience on Facebook and shared his plan to stop Foodpanda's bad service - by sharing with the public their corporate phone numbers.

"If everyday hundreds of people call, complain about their order, then they'll have to do something about it."

Hyder also shared with us that Foodpanda allegedly told him that the order has been cancelled as it was not delivered to him.

They also said that they will get a manager to call him, but apparently, that did not happen.

Mothership has reached out to Foodpanda for comment and will update the post with their reply.

Singaporeans concur on opinion towards Foodpanda

The Facebook video has since garnered more than 500 reactions and 900 over shares.

Many Singaporean agreed on Hyder's opinion about Foodpanda's customer service.

At least one food delivery rider shared his gripe working for a food delivery company, to which Hyder replied that it's "not fair" to the staff too.

And unfortunately, it looks like Hyder's plan is not working out for one netizen, as just like Hyder, she too was pushed back to the live chat function.

 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And in case anyone's wondering if Hyder is malnourished by now, he's doing fine.

He ended up ordering a meal from another food delivery app.
