We don't say it much, but Singaporeans are actually pretty proud of Changi Airport, especially when it was named the best airport in the world for the sixth consecutive year:

Which might explain why a few feathers were ruffled when a video circulated on social media showing a woman smoking on the airport's air-conditioned premises.

You can watch it here:

The 14-second video, originally uploaded to a Facebook user's page, has since been shared by various outlets.

At the time of writing, the footage had been shared more than 3,000 times across the social media platform.

Singaporeans concerned with security

With the spread of the video, conscientious and law-abiding citizens have come out of the woodwork to point out security concerns:

The National Environment Agency (NEA) website states that the responsibility falls on operators and premises managers to handle any errant smokers, by the way.

Others chided the video-taker for not personally stopping the woman:

However, the user who first uploaded the video to Facebook and the video-taker are not the same person:

Video from months ago

In response to Mothership.sg queries, a spokesperson from the Changi Airport Group revealed that the incident occurred months ago.

It is understood the billboards visible in the background are not recent.

This is the statement in full:

The incidents captured in the videos are not recent, having occurred months ago. The actions of the individuals in the videos contravene existing laws.
