The latest talk of the town involves, strangely enough, three young girls and plenty of slapping:

What happened in the video

The one-minute video shows two girls in white T-shirts attacking a third girl in black, supposedly over some guy named Nigel.

While the audio is muffled at some parts, one of the girls in white says quite audibly, "This is how you talk to Nigel, I told you not to mess with Nigel! [slap]"

"So now you're taking my words for granted right, you messed with the wrong f*cking person leh! [slap]"

Besides continual slapping, the perpetrators also displayed other signs of aggression, such as taunting and threatening their target.

Towards the end a fourth girl (likely friends with the slapping girls) appears in frame briefly, and the person filming the entire scene holds up his/her middle finger.

At least two different users have uploaded the video on Facebook, with each post gathering at least 2,000 shares. One of the posts has since been taken down.

"Nigel" explains

However, the videos uploaded on social media did not explain what led to the slapping incident. For truly, who is this "Nigel", who managed to get two girls so wound up they would start slapping another?

Wonder no longer, for someone who claims to be the man at the centre of it all has come forward to shed light on the situation.

Screenshots of a WhatsApp conversation between Nigel and another unidentified person has surfaced on local meme page youtiao.help's Instagram stories:

Nigel is the one with white speech bubbles:

"Pengwei" translates literally from Hokkien to "flip word", meaning to twist the truth.

"Dl" comes from the Hokkien term "du lan", which means "pissed me off" in this context, or "pissed off" in general.

Here's a rough summary of Nigel's text:

• The girl who got slapped liked Nigel. Her name is Raine.
• Nigel liked her back.
• However, Raine allegedly flirted with other guys, and got together with another guy named Aaron, after asking Nigel to trust that she had feelings for him.
• Raine allegedly flirted with Nigel while she was together with Aaron.
• Nigel then told his best friend Corliss (the girl who carried out the slapping) about it.
• Corliss happens to also be good friends with Aaron.
• After breaking up with Aaron, Raine had apparently refused to come clean (presumably about the entire situation in general). To whom, we're not sure.
• We're also not sure who Rain Lee or Alex are. Or why it happens that there are two people in this story with such similar and interesting names.

Another screenshot of a conversation with Corliss surfaced on Facebook, where she told the same story (i.e. Raine had been flirting around with Corliss' guy friends):

Girl who carried out slapping: "We have settled"

The "youtiao.help" page also announced in their Instagram stories that they had tracked down one of the girls involved in the slapping (i.e. Corliss):

According to a story on her Instagram profile, Corliss says she is "apologetic" for what she has done, while claiming that both her and Raine have sorted their disagreement out:

According to Corliss (the slapper), the two girls (the slapper and the slapped) agreed that they were both at fault.

Corliss also shared another screenshot of her reply to a member of the public whom she says messaged her on the platform:

The girls are now even on "talking terms".
