Commercial Crime Investigations Department (CCID) policemen in Malaysia have completed counting 11 bags of cold hard cash.

Tens of millions of ringgit have been counted from the bags that were seized in raids on apartments in Pavilion Residences in Kuala Lumpur last Friday.

But that is only part of the job done.

11 hours of counting

A total of 11 bags of cash were taken to the CCID headquarters in Menara 238 in Jalan Tun Razak at about 10am.

The process of counting them was completed 11 hours later at 9pm.

The 11 bags are expected to be taken to the Bank Negara Malaysia, where another round of counting is expected to take place the next day.

Highly-placed sources said the 11 bags contained tens of millions ringgit.

Counting tediuous

However, the counting of money was tedious as CCID policemen needed to record the serial number of each note.

The process was further slowed down as there were several different currencies involved.

It was also learnt that Bank Islam had been engaged to evaluate the jewellery and gold bars that were seized along with the cash.

11 out of 26 bags counted

Sources said 26 out of the 72 bags that had been seized had been taken to Menara 238 earlier in the morning.

Having only completed counting cash in 11 of the bags, the remaining 15 will be taken back to federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman to be stored till tomorrow, when the process will be restarted.

The other two units in the luxury apartment complex are said to belong to Najib's family members.
