Good news for Singaporeans: Malaysian cheese tart brand Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart is now halal-certified by MUIS in Singapore.

This is their Facebook announcement on May 16, which has gathered over 1,400 shares:

Despite looking similar, note that Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart is not the same as the earlier-to-Singapore brand BAKE Cheese Tart.

The former a concept by the Malaysian Secret Recipe cafe chain, that started operations in Singapore in the fourth quarter of 2016, while the latter is a Japanese brand that opened its first store here in April that year.

Here's a list of Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart's halal branches in Singapore:

  • Jurong Point
  • Changi Airport T3
  • Causeway Point
  • Northpoint Shopping Centre
  • Changi City Point
  • Parkway Parade
  • White Sands Mall

The tarts go for S$2.90 per piece or S$14.50 for a box of six.

Besides original, their tarts also come in chocolate and durian flavours.

Funnily enough, some people who commented expressed their shock that the cheese tarts were not Halal all along:

And it turns out that their tarts have always been halal-compliant with halal ingredients, but they were previously in the midst of applying for halal certification:

Good to know.
