Geylang Serai Bazaar 2018: 70% hipster, 30% traditional

Your no-nonsense, handy guide to arguably the biggest food fair of the year

The Geylang Serai Bazaar 2018 is happening from May 12 to June 14 and that can only mean one thing: FOOD.

Ramadan 2018 in Singapore starts on May 17 and ends on June 14.

While the bazaar officially starts on May 12, many stalls might not be fully open in the first week. We recommend that you head down from the weekend of May 19.

Here's our handy, no-nonsense guide on the food and drinks you can find at the bazaar this year:

1. Sliders by 21 Sliders

21 Sliders returns with their mini burgers this year and this year they're bringing a new signature menu.

What to eat:

Classic sliders

  1. The American Cheese ($4): Beef patty covered with melted cheese and topped with caramelised onions.
  2. The Backyard ($4): Beef patty and turkey bacon covered with smokey BBQ sauce.
  3. The Wrangler ($4):  Buttermilk fried chicken served with spicy Sriracha and Tabasco sauce and tangy purple coleslaw.
  4. The 421 ($4): Chicken patty served with mayonnaise paired with tangy lemon.

Signature sliders

  1. The Yung Raja ($4.50): Butter Chicken Masala served with local lettuce and fresh coriander
  2. The Ren-dang! ($4.50): 21 Slider's rendition of a Rendang Beef slider served with fresh cut onions
  3. The Butter Factory ($4.50): Garlic Honey on fried chicken with garlic chips and purple slaw

2. Meatballs in buckets by Sofnade

What to eat:

  1. Satay Meatballs in a Bucket ($9): Chicken/beef meatballs slowed cooked in satay gravy. They are served with a base of ketupat (rice cakes), onions, and cucumbers and topped with satay sauce.
  2. Standard Meatballs in a Bucket ($9): Chicken/beef meatballs served with brown or cheese sauce with cranberry
  3. Bucket Drinks ($6 for 1; $10 for 2): Choose from Classic Bubble Milk Tea, Okinawa Milk Tea, 100% Freshly Squeezed Watermelon Lemonade, Blue Pea Longan Tea and more. Comes with free toppings such as pearls, mango popping balls and aiyu jelly.

3. Fancy drinks by BrewUp

BrewUp's specialty drinks this year would the Rose Milk Tea and Speculoos Milk Tea.

4. Local churros by Loco Loco

Loco Loco returns to this year's Bazaar with their specialty - churros with a local twist.

Save for the Churros Platter, everything else offered by them this year are new additions to the menu, with the highlight being churros infused with D24 durian.

What to eat:

5. Rainbow Works

This year, in order to top last year's Unicorn Milkshake, Rainbow Works is coming up with balloons that are not only edible, but also changes your voice.

What to eat:

  1. Edible balloon ($8.90)
  2. Flaming Unicorn ($9.90): Premium purple soft serve ice-cream that are set on fire for Instastory-worthy pyrotechnics
  3. Fruit juices - Orange ($3.90), Watermelon ($7.90), and Pineapple ($7.90): These blended juices are served in the fruits themselves with no added sugar or preservatives and are chilled via liquid nitrogen.
  4. Starlite ($9.90): Milkshake topped with all manners of sugary confections.
  5. Potions ($8): Glittering drinks that come in four flavours: Unicorn Tears, Mermaid, Love Potion, and Pixie Dust.

6. Long Fries and Aligot by The Four Horsemen

What to eat:

  1. Aligot ($5.90; $8.90 with meatballs): A traditional French dish made by blending cheese with mash potatoes.
  2. Long Fries ($7.90): Choose from four different sauces (Tomato, Sour Cream and Onion, Wasabi Mayonnaise, Cheese) to go with your fries.
  3. Lightning Soda ($5.90 for small, $6.90 for big): Soda that comes in a lightbulb-shaped bottle.

7. Raclette Rosti by Raclette Factory

Remember the Raclette Factory from last year? This year they are back with Swiss cheese and another Swiss staple - Rosti.

What to eat: 

  1. Swiss Rosti Raclette ($12): Rosti with a side of gourmet chicken cocktail sausages, topped with raclette cheese. Additional cheese for $6.
  2. Lemonster Drinks ($8, 4 for $30): Shaved ice drinks that come in four flavours (Apple Sparkle, Peach Perfect, Passionfruit Royale, and Grapefruit Surprise).
  3. Swiss Rosti Raclette Family Platter ($40): Swiss Rosti Raclette that serves four to five people.
  4. Raclette Combo Set ($19): Swiss Rosti Raclette and one Lemonster drink.

8. Katoshka

What to eat:

  1. Russet fries with sauces ($5.90): Double fried russet potatoes served with either their special cheese, sour ranch or the red and white (chilli and mayonnaise).
  2. Russet fries with premium sauces ($6.90): Double fried russet potatoes served with either chilli beef, tom yum or chicken snack pack.
  3. Sweet potato fries ($5.90): The sweet potato fries will be making its debut in both the Geylang and Woodlands bazaar.
  4. Beverages ($3.50): Refreshing array of drinks including the assam boi special (lime juice and sour plum concoction) and fruity soda.
  5. Iced Creamy Mango ($4): Mango juice with milk, akin to a mango lassi.
