Uber will be extending its mobile app operations to May 7, 2018.

It was previously set to cease its operations on April 17, a date already extended from its original deactivation date on April 8.

Merger under scrutiny

The Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS) is continuing its investigation into Grab’s acquisition of Uber and has issued several interim measures on Friday, April 13.

The measures include preventing Grab from enhancing its market position by taking over Uber’s operational data, such as historical trip data.

Grab will also need to ensure that new drivers entering into an agreement to drive on its platform are not subject to exclusivity obligations.

The ride-hailing firms are also required to maintain their pre-merger pricing and commission levels.

An independent monitoring trustee will be appointed to make sure the measures are complied with.

The announcement came after CCCS’ own concerns about the merger, feedback from third-parties and a review of the companies’ written representations responding to the interim measures, which the competition watchdog proposed on March 30.

The extension of Uber's app will allow more time for a smoother transition for riders and drivers.
