A pair of Republic of Singapore Air Force fighter jets were scrambled within minutes after the pilot of a Scoot plane declared a bomb threat mid-flight at around 3pm on April 5, 2018.

Escorted back

The pair of F-15SGs took off within minutes when the pilot of flight TR634 declared a bomb threat en route to Hat Yai, Thailand.

The F-15SG pilots closely escorted the Scoot plane from the South China Sea to land safely back at Changi Airport.

According to Scoot, flight TR634 was scheduled to leave for Hat Yai, Thailand, at 1.20pm but was escorted back to Singapore by the Republic of Singapore Air Force and safely landed at 3.23pm.

The Singapore Police Force is investigating the incident.

The passenger who allegedly made the bomb threat and his two other travel companions are assisting in investigations, according to the police in two separate updates.

Pilots praised

In a Facebook post, Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen praised the RSAF pilots for their quick actions.

But for our RSAF pilots who are on stand-by duties 24/7, every threat is considered real until proven otherwise. They keep us and our skies safe. Well done, The Republic of Singapore Air Force.

Comments on the post speculated if the fighter jets could take down the passenger plane in the event it goes rogue.
