SAF combat medics help casualties after school van crashes along Mandai Ave

A school van transporting four students crashed into a lamp post on Wednesday April 25, around 6.40am, along Mandai Avenue.

Fortunately, a troop of combat medics from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) came across the scene of the accident to help out the injured casualties.

Servicemen from the Combat Medic Specialist Course of the SAF Medical Training Institute (SMTI) came across the wreckage on their way to an outfield exercise.

Among the injured were the van driver and four crying children by the side of the road.

Pulled over to help

According to ME3 Ng Jaan Woei, the SMTI officer commanding and emergency medical technician specialist, he halted the convoy of SAF vehicles and deployed his men to help out.

He aided a boy who sustained a bad cut on his forehead and cuts on his legs due to the shattered glass from the school van.

3SG Delwin Tay Yong Xi, an emergency medical technician specialist aided another boy who suffered from a cut on his forehead and his left elbow.

At the same time, ME2 Muhammad Zulhilmi led a group of instructors and trainees to remove a fallen lamp post to alleviate the traffic congestion to allow the ambulance to quickly reach the accident site.

The case was handed over to Singapore Civil Defence Force ambulance paramedics, who conveyed three casualties to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, while another two were taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
