Some thought of him as a great Officer Commanding when he was a trainer at Home Team Academy.

A short overseas getaway over the long weekend proved to be a life-threatening one for Mirkhan Ariffin, a retired police officer.

According to his daughter, Shea Mariff, Mirkhan and his wife were spending their holiday in Bali when they met with a motorcycle accident on April 1.

Critical condition

While his wife suffered from minor skin injuries, Mirkhan is currently in a critical condition, with a fracture in his neck and collarbone and four broken ribs.

According to the GoFundMe page set up by his three daughters on April 2, he fell into a coma after receiving surgery at Sanglah General Hospital.

The page was set up with a US$100,000 goal to help with the increasing hospital bills, an air ambulance to fly him back home to Singapore and miscellaneous bills such as the family's accommodation while in Bali and for future treatment in Singapore.

"Best OC"

The Facebook post garnered more than 4,000 shares and was reminisced and given well wishes from former colleagues and acquaintances.

"I'm so sorry to hear about what happened to your father. I have done my part and I hope others can do the same. I do not kn0w him personally bu he may have guided me when I was in TRACOM in 2011 and also 2013.

My sincerest hopes that SSI Mirkhan will come home to all of us and get back to his feet as soon as he can. Godspeed."

"His (sic) the best OC!"

"Speedy recovery Sir! You are a GREAT OC!"

Be strong, Shea Mariff!! Be like your daddy!! Juz so u noe we boi boi tua vee ass be here ready for his return back home... we've sent our reps to Bali and one of us managed to talk to yr daddys mother... we are being updated regularly... our prayers with our buddy and his family..."

Latest updates

The family has reached their goal, receiving US$116,725 (as of the time of writing) from over 2,000 people.

However, the latest update on Shea's Facebook post mentioned that his brain is no longer functioning and is on life support.

"[UPDATE]

my dad... has lost all of his senses in his brains so now it’s not functioning anymore. the only thing keeping him alive is his heart. he would be declared as brain dead but because he’s still on life support, he isn’t officially declared by the doctors.

right now my family is still discussing what to do with him. we’re going to have him air-lifted back to Singapore but with an extremely huge risk. we’re just letting him rest for the next few days to let his physical body recover first and hopefully be allowed to be lifted back home."

But not all seems lost as according to one Inez Lawa who claims to be Mirkhan's sister-in-law, he will be flown back to Singapore on April 4.
