[Update on April 20, 2.06pm: The Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed that the 19-year-old female passenger succumbed to her injuries and subsequently passed away in NUH. We have removed the video and all links to it out of respect for the deceased.]

A video of a horrific, high-impact accident on Thursday evening shows a woman in a taxi smashing her head through the window of the backseat.

According to the caption to the video, uploaded to Facebook page ROADS.sg, it occurred at the junction of Clementi Road and Commonwealth Ave West on Thursday, April 19, at about 7.30pm.

The crash happened so quickly there was no opportunity for either driver involved to react.

Here's the sequence of events:

- The taxi was turning right at the junction, behind another car.

- As it was halfway through the turn, another vehicle from the lane diagonally opposite where the taxi came from sped forward — from the dashcam footage, it appears that the light (at the left-hand side of the frame) was still in favour of traffic going straight (i.e. the car that crashed into the turning taxi had the right of way).

- The impact was so great that both vehicles spun and were sent skidding. By the time both cars had stopped, the passenger in the taxi could be clearly seen with her head hanging out of the backseat window.

According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force, a man who was trapped in one of the two vehicles was extricated using hydraulic rescue tools when they arrived at the scene. A total of six adults were conveyed to the National University Hospital.

Mothership understands three of the six, including the lady, sustained serious injuries.
