Singapore economist and public intellectual Donald Low is leaving the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, where he is Associate Dean.
His last day is on April 30, after which, he tells Mothership, he looks forward to more travel and teaching elsewhere -- not ruling out positions in other universities or institutions too.
But no, before you start speculating, he clarified that the reason for his departure isn't a controversial one — in his words, he leaves the school on "very good and happy terms".
Confusion began when a Straits Times report headlined "LKY School associate dean Donald Low resigns, citing 'internal issue'" was published online:
This, he explained to Mothership, happened after he told the reporter that his resignation "is an internal issue", which he did not wish to elaborate on.
Unfortunately, it was taken to mean that Low had an internal issue with the school, and eventually made it into the article's headline.
Low subsequently took to his own Facebook to clarify the matter in a post, saying:
"For the record, I'm leaving on very good and happy terms with the School. It's been a very meaningful and fulfilling 5.5 years, and I've enjoyed working with colleagues and students. I will miss them very much. I'm also looking forward to some serious holidaying..."
The paper eventually revised its headline and the misconstrued details it reported in its story, and published the following correction at the bottom:
