Woman in S'pore unhappy with $48 unicorn cake because it looks $48

To be fair, it doesn't look as advertised lah.

It's painful if you pay $400 for a birthday cake and it can't rise up to the occasion.

Like this one:

In the instance above, the cake was almost unrecognisable from its requested design of a cupcake. And it was double the heart pain because of its price.

But what happens when the price of the cake is lower than market rate? Will this result in less heartache?

Recently, a woman named Arthur Da has taken to Facebook to complain about a unicorn cake she ordered from Saffire Patisserie, a locally-based baker on Carousell:

In case the text is too small:

PLS SHARE OUT,????????truth experienced from myself.I ordered a cake to celebrated my niece Birthday.she like Unicorn ? very much, that the reason I ordered from Carousell "SAFFIRE PATISSERIE" unfortunately, the cake I received is totally unpresentable&unacceptable! n the seller don't even apologize. Hence, I share this to avoid happen to anyone again. N I requested to refund 50% only, yet she only offer a $20 voucher? Will u accept the voucher & order from them again?this is how ridiculous & bad attitude & bad services from her reply. out of goodwill, let the audiences to make the judgment.thank you.PLS????

Da made it sound pretty bad, which might lead one to think the unicorn looked like a rabid horse or something.

Here's the cake she received:

And here's how it compares to the advertised cake:

There were noticeable differences between the two, such as the piping, the colour of the cream, and the shape of the fondant ears/horn.

She also posted a screenshot of the shop's Carousell account.

"If you're cheap please go buy a ready-made cake it's much cheaper"

Unfortunately, other Facebook users weren't too sympathetic, especially after finding out that the cake only costs S$48, a price which includes delivery (the average unicorn cake from online bakeries costs upwards of S$150).

The same user also pointed out that Da probably ate the cake anyway:

Another guy couldn't see why Da had a problem with the cake:

However, there were also commenters who argued that the main issue was the misrepresentation of the product, as the delivered cake deviated from the one in the photo:

Owner personally replies

Even though Da's post only has four shares, the owner of the bakery still made it a point to address the matter.

She replied on the complaint with her personal account:

And this is the the statement Saffire Patisserie issued:

The essay statement is a tad long, but in essence, the bakery clarified that they did not mistreat Da in any way, and even claimed that the customer raised her voice and hurled vulgarities at them on the phone.

And according to the bakery, the unicorn cake that was sent out was not melting, nor were the horn and ears like what Da had described.

Da was apparently not receptive to the solutions and apologies offered, and threatened to "let the whole world know".

Interestingly, Saffire Patisserie's latest Carousell photo (uploaded on April 4, the same day that Da posted her complaint) is now a much more accurate depiction of the cake:

Anyway, if anyone doesn't mind a slightly off unicorn cake, here's the rather reasonable price list, as posted by Da herself:

Guess it's still decent publicity for the bakery ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
