8 Days, a weekly entertainment rag that was popular before the internet era, will stop printing physical copies for sale at the end of September 2018.

It will be going fully digital.

8 Days website

The entry of 8 Days into the digital space has been a long time coming, with print media collapsing in Singapore.

However, 8days.sg, the online version of the magazine, was launched only in April 2017.

It has attracted an average of 2.1 million page views a month, according to Mediacorp's own press release.

i-Weekly too

Mediacorp also said Chinese-language magazine i-Weekly will cease printing physical copies.

The i-Weekly digital publication reportedly has an average of 1.3 million page views a month since its revamp in July last year, according to Mediacorp.

It is housed on toggle.sg.

Ceasing publication

Besides the print to digital transition, exiting the market completely would be fashion magazine ELLE.

Mediacorp will not renew its licence to publish the Singapore version of it.

The magazine’s October edition will be the last one published and will be released in September.

Mediacorp will also close its parenting advice website SmartParents.

Staff affected

According to the press release, Mediacorp said jobs will be affected:

As a result of the changes, a number of roles will be affected. Over the next six months, Mediacorp will retrain and redeploy affected employees to other jobs within the company’s various growth areas.

It did not mention if there will be retrenchments.
