There is an authentic Singaporean kopitiam in Sapporo, Japan.

And it is called "This is Singapore Style Kopitiam", in the good old kitschy Japanese way.

Singapore branding, quintessentially Japanese in execution

This eatery is a strange find.

Located in the Tanukikoji arcade, it has been around for 10 years or more, according to a review on Best of Sapporo Japan.

But its existence has only been recently made more widely known in Japan-crazy Singapore.

It can sit about 50 pax and is known to be fully reserved quite a lot as it is frequented by local Japanese.

What does it serve?

The eatery slaps together anything one can remotely find in Singapore.

The menu ranges from the mundane to the truly iconic, which results in a smorgasbord of cuisines served that do not display any specialisation or derive from one particular ethnicity.

The foods dished out include Hand Brand peanuts, Tiger Beer, har gow, goreng pisang, bak kut teh, mee rebus, satay and Hainanese chicken rice.

The most quintessential Singaporean decor would be the plastic chairs and pineapple lanterns.
