LTA unveils Chinese New Year-themed MRT trains & buses, S'poreans complain because

We can't find a reason good enough to complete the headline.

The first day of the 2018 Lunar New Year falls on Friday, February 16.

And on Saturday, February 3, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) rolled out two Lunar New Year-themed trains and five similarly-decorated buses. One train will run along the North-East (purple) Line, while the other will service the North-South (red) Line and East-West (green) Line.

Here's what they look like:

The decor includes dog motifs (for the year of the dog), peach blossoms (representing longevity), ingots (for wealth and fortune), and traditional Chinese couplets with auspicious sayings.

The decorations will be up until the last day of the Lunar New Year, which is Mar. 2. According to the LTA, they are part of the effort to "improve the commuting experience and foster a positive commuter culture".

Besides trains, five buses (80, 143, 147, 166, and 174) and Outram Park MRT station will be decorated as well.

However, it seems not everyone is pleased with this effort, if the complaints comments online are anything to go by.

These are the two main issues raised:

1) Hari Raya/Deepavali have or not??

And guess what? The answer is yes:

In case you're wondering, there were also two trains for Hari Raya, and at least two trains for Deepavali.

Deepavali similarly commanded five themed buses, although none were deployed for Hari Raya.

2) Don't waste money! Improve train services first!

Now, it's unlikely that the lack of decorations will result in the improvement on train services, but hey, we suppose one can hope.

Interestingly, the matter of decorating public transport also managed to become a matter of our foreign policy:

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
