Get ready to be insulted.

A one-day cafe in Woodlands will allow its customers to experience being abused and insulted by its servers.

This is a type of cafe called "Tsundere cafe", where customers voluntarily subject themselves to mental or even physical abuse by wait stuff. For fun -- in case that wasn't clear.

By itself, "Tsundere" is a Japanese term for a character development process where a cold and hostile person eventually warms up to you.

And yes, the wait staff will be dressed as butlers and maids.

The event is organised by Subatoki Cafe, a small business started in late 2017 specialising in Japanese-themed cafes.

Here's the sort of treatment you will receive at the Tsundere cafe:

Rudeness

Harsh words and insults, all in the name of fun.

Being ignored

You might have to try a little harder for their attention, but this is nothing new in Singapore's service scene, really.

Rough handling of objects

Throwing menus and slamming trays. Oh my.

Additionally, there is also such a thing called the Service Gacha, where you pay S$2 for a random service draw.

Random services include feeding, massaging, a forehead flick, games, and a Polaroid photo.

To request for any of the services specifically, it'll be S$5 instead.

No retorts from customers allowed

However, customers are reminded that they should refrain from retorting, even when faced with abuse.

Should you get uncomfortable with the treatment, feel free to let the management know and necessary arrangements will be made (that includes throwing you out, perhaps).

You are also not allowed to take photos of your own at the cafe. If you wish to take a photo with their staff, purchase a Polaroid slot with them.

Menu

For reservations made between Jan. 27 and 31, it will cost you S$19.90 for one main dish, tray cake, drink, and service gacha.

For reservations made between Feb. 1 and 2, it will cost you S$25 for the same set.

Note that dining at the cafe is on a reservation-only basis. No walk-ins will be entertained.
