The 8th Singapore-Malaysia leaders' retreat has been a good way for PMs to discuss things directly.

Fighting a general election can be draining. Sometimes you just wanna get away from it all and spend time with a good friend.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak looks like he's enjoying his jaunt to Singapore for the 8th Singapore-Malaysia leaders' retreat, from Jan 15 to 16.

Social influencer

A noted social media maven, he's been posting regularly about his visit. First up, a meeting with President Halimah Yacob:

Then a Facebook live video to commemorate the opening of Marina One (in Marina Bay) and DUO (in Bugis):

Najib's social media postings about his visit also happen to be in English, instead of Malay.

Both projects were developed by the cleverly-named M+S, a joint venture set up in 2011 between Malaysian strategic investment fund Khazanah Nasional and Singapore's Temasek Holdings.

The combined gross development value of both projects is S$11 billion.

Singapore also have

Not to be outdone, our own social influencer-in-chief Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong also posted a photo album on Facebook, including this artistic pic of the two leaders looking at a fireworks display at Marina One.

He also hosted a private dinner for Najib together with Ho Ching and Rosmah Mansor.

Note the colourful shirts instead of the usual sombre suits and ties.

On Jan. 16, the two PMs will witness the signing of a bilateral agreement for the Johor Baru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link.

The RTS Link is expected to start running by end-2024.

It will be signed by Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan on the Singapore side, and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan for the Malaysians.

The Singapore visit is not Najib's first overseas trip this year. Earlier in Jan. 2018, he visited Saudi Arabia at the invitation of King Salman.

He made full use of social media then as well. Perhaps Najib's growing online presence will be the key to winning GE14.
