Mediacorp countdown show ended 2017 on bad note. Literally.

RIP 2017.

Mediacorp marked the end of 2017, and music in general, with this following performance on its live New Year's Eve countdown show:

The performance involved EDM duo Rave Republic, violin virtuoso Shalynn Tsai, and Malay pop singer Aisyah Aziz.

Countdown with the stars

This televised performance on Celebrate 2018 Party With The Stars, was shown on Channel 5, in the final hour of 2017.

This was Mediacorp’s first-ever New Year programme at its campus along Stars Avenue.

What's going on?

As you can witness for yourselves, there is a DJ console with two awkward deejays trying to work the crowd.

The small crowd the camera keeps panning to are possibly the only ones bouncing enthusiastically enough.

And there is a violinist who was trying to be into it.

Lastly, the singer who is absolutely killing it.

What is a reasonable diagnosis of what is happening is that the singer was singing in the same key as the musicians, but it was way too high for her to keep up during the high notes.

So, she was straining to reach those notes and straining over the arrangement of the song.

The audience took notice, for sure

Reactions to the performance have been gold, at least for the people at home:

The Mediacorp countdown show also featured the usual suspects, such as Taufik Batisah, The Sam Willows, and The Muttons.

But hey, at least this segment is unforgettable.
