In case you've forgotten, artistes from Channel 8 had to dab in 2017's mandatory Chinese New Year video:
We'll re-upload this for your viewing pleasure:
2018 video
This year's video seems to fare better, as it is decidedly less cringe-worthy.
You can watch it here:
As this year is the year of the dog, the song is named 阿狗狗旺旺过好年 (Translation: Ah Dog goes woof woof for a prosperous new year).
There are Chinese puns in the song title, as "a gou gou" can mean both "dog" and a vintage dancing style, "a go-go".
On the other hand, "wang wang" is the onomatopoeia of a barking dog, but also means "to prosper" in Mandarin.
Sure, it's nothing too original or outstanding, but it gets the job done.
Here's what we like about the video:
- Nice scenery of Marina Barrage
- Cute dancing and outfits
- No dabbing
- Channel 8 artistes' unfaltering courage at having to star in another CNY video
What's a bit off:
- Looks like ACES day in secondary school
- Dog mascots' arms are too short to join in the dancing.
Now we're just nitpicking. Enjoy the video.
