This is 70-year-old Shirley Chua.

70-year-old cosplayer

Chua isn't your average senior person.

She's a cosplayer, and a pretty well-known one among the cosplaying community in Singapore, who affectionately calls her Aunty Shirley.

Here she is at a cosplaying event, playing Ana from Overwatch.

Chua has been cosplaying since 2011.

She has dressed up as many different characters, with her favourite one being Ragyō Kiryūin from the anime Kill la Kill, according to an interview by The Good Guyde.

Independent and feisty

Chua's zest for life and independence is a breath of fresh air, given that the clarion call has been issued for the elderly to age actively.

Chua reveals that she sews her own costumes and in her free time, she exercises by doing squats, overhead presses, and even lifting weights.

Growing up, she had to cut short her studying to support her siblings. Chua also reveals that she had previously worked in an iron mill, and even had a stint as a crane operator.

No generation gap

Having been busy earning a living, Chua acknowledges that working so long delayed her marriage, and hence, she only had her son when she was 40.

However, this generation gap apparently did not hinder her bond with her son, who also does cosplay.

Chua insists that she is happy, and finds fulfillment in her cosplaying.

Chua's tip for others is to not concern yourself too much with what other people think, because you'll feel better this way.
