Identified as crime hotspot
Taman Pelangi was identified as one of the 15 crime hotspots by the Johor police in 2009.
These areas, including Taman Setia Indah and Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, were identified due to its prevalent numbers of street crimes like snatch thefts and wayside robberies.
In an effort to reduce crime rates by up to 20 percent, more police have been deployed in these areas.

One Singaporean posted his experience of a robbery at a petrol station in Taman Pelangi on Mycarforum.
According to the user, he was filling up his gas tank on a crowded day when a man used a knife and extorted money from him.
Despite the fact that the petrol station was full of bystanders, no one came forward to help him as they too were fearing for their lives.
However, the Singaporean man considered himself lucky.
He said the robbers are known to rob the car together with your family, if other family members are left in the car.
Singaporean's car robbed
In 2013, a Singaporean in Taman Pelangi was accosted by two men armed with parangs.
The Singaporean was robbed.
The thieves got away with his car, a laptop, RM3,000 worth of cash, an ATM card, an identity card and a passport.
Thankfully, police raids were carried out and four men were arrested.
The gang leader behind such crimes was found to be targeting Singaporeans in the area.
This was like Grand Theft Auto but in real life.

Held hostage at home
Even the locals aren't spared.
A Malaysian family was held hostage for an hour in their own home in 2012.
A man was about to wash his daughter's car when two smartly dressed men, whom he thought were returning from work, held him and pulled him towards his house.
Another assailant wearing a ski mask and wielding a parang later appeared in the house.
The family of five, one of whom is a Singapore permanent resident, had their wrists taped and the thieves got away with expensive belongings, such as a 42-inch flat-screen television, two bottles of 21-year-old whiskey, S$4,000 worth of cash and two of the family's cars.
This was the third time in 15 years that the family's home had been targeted by intruders.
