Previously, if you wanted to replace your Apple iPhone battery (without warranty), you would have to shell out S$118.
Come January 2018, that price will be cut by 68 percent to only S$38.
This new price applies to iPhone 6 and later models, and will run from January 2018 through December 2018.
Apple will also be releasing a software update that will provide users with information on their iPhones' battery health in early 2018.
Battery backlash
On Dec. 20, Apple acknowledged that the tech company deliberately throttled older iPhone with each new iOS update to protect the phone's internal circuit.
Because aged lithium ion batteries in iPhones delivered power unevenly, the iPhone would be prone to unexpected shutdowns.
To circumvent the unexpected shutdowns, Apple slowed down older iPhones via new iOS updates.
Signs of throttled iPhone speeds
According to CNET, these are signs that your iPhone speeds have slowed down:
- Longer app launch times
- Lower frame rates while scrolling
- Backlight dimming
- Lower speaker volume by up to -3dB
- Gradual frame rate reductions in some apps
- During the most extreme cases, the camera flash will be disabled as visible in the camera UI
- Apps refreshing in background may require reloading upon launch
iPhone users in Singapore who need to replace their iPhone batteries can do so at the Orchard Road Apple Store or at any authorised reseller.
