Remember Denise Neo? On Oct. 29, she lost her phone while buying a drink from the LiHo outlet at Bugis Junction.

After going back and speaking to the manager, she saw security camera footage that appeared to show a woman behind her in the queue had swiped her phone.

She made a Facebook post appealing for help and reported the incident to the police.

Speaking to Mothership.sg, Neo said she got her phone back, but not in the same condition.

Help from the public

According to Neo, two women contacted her directly, saying that they had seen her video and recognised the person who allegedly stole the phone. They also knew the suspect's address.

Neo passed on the information to the police, who apparently got in touch with the suspect and retrieved the phone. Unfortunately, the phone had been unlocked and all its data wiped.

On top of that, the various cards she kept with the phone had been thrown away in "different public bins".

As the suspect may be charged in court, Neo was advised by the police to take down her initial public post.

Neo said that the incident has taught her to be more careful with her belongings, and that she wanted to thank everyone who helped her recover her phone.

So if you see a phone left behind by someone -- don't swipe it and keep it for yourself.
