Update, 5.24pm: Suspicious item is a toy grenade.
According to Channel News Asia, a suspicious grenade-shaped object has been found at Penang Road on Friday afternoon, Nov. 3.
The incident is believed to have started after 3pm.
Members of the public have been advised to avoid the area and not to speculate.
However, CNA said it understands that the suspicious item was found outside Singapore Shopping Centre at the junction of Penang Lane and Penang Road, prompting the closure of Penang Lane to traffic.
As of 4.49pm, Penang Lane is still closed, even though the police said the suspicious item has been found.
This is a developing story.
