Rice bowls - beef bowls, in particular - seem to be an increasingly popular trend among Singaporeans.
Gyu Nami is one such contender on the scene. The stall in Amoy Street Food Centre sells only one thing - the Wagyu Roast Beef Donburi, which goes for S$10.
Every bowl will contain at least 100g of beef, which are roasted to medium rare. Unlike the usual beef bowls, Gyu Nami's beef slices are noticeably thinner and leaner, but reportedly still tender. The meat is then finished with onion sauce.
The rice, on the other hand, comes strictly from Niigata, Japan. The pearl grains are doused in spicy siracha sauce to complement the protein.
Finally, a sous-vide egg tops the mountain of beef, and in an unconventional move, a dollop of tangy yoghurt completes the dish (presumably to balance the "heaviness" of the dish).
Gyu Nami opened only recently in August, but has proven to be popular with diners - there were at least once where the stall had sold out their offerings by 1pm, two hours after it opened for business.
