The National Parks Board is organising a Community Garden Festival from Nov. 3 to 5, 2017.

The event will be held over Friday, Saturday and Sunday at HortPark, and will include a marketplace, design competitions and garden displays.

The marketplace will comprise of over 40 booths. Here is the list of the participating vendors.

Truffle talk

Of significant interest is the talk about growing truffles at home.

It will be held on Sunday, Nov. 5 from 10am to 11am.

Admission is free.

The talk is by Salem Shamekh, from the Juva Truffle Center in Finland.

The centre has been helping landowners in Europe establish truffle orchards on their grounds by providing consultancy and tree seedlings inoculated with different truffle species.

Is growing truffles possible in tropical climate?

Attending this talk will most likely help answer this question.

But not as if truffles have not been grown in tropical climates before.

Recently, in September 2017, white truffles were successfully grown in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The experiment was led by a university research team and the findings are said to challenge existing theories that say truffles can only thrive in temperate climates.
