An unlikely dance trio are gaining millions of views for their incredibly funky and in-sync routine.

In a video that was uploaded by a Hong Kong news outlet, and has since garnered over 6.4 million views on Facebook, an elderly man and two identically-dressed little girls were seen dancing in perfectly choreographed moves together.

Dancing to the rhythm of a Chinese song in what looked like a park in mainland China, some said that the footwork the trio exhibited resembled a dance called the "Crip Walk", which involves quick and intricate footwork and originated in the early 1970s from the Los Angeles area.

At one point, they even appeared to do a version of the moonwalk, moving backwards while continuing to bop up and down.

Netizens in awe

Public dancing is a tradition that has wide appeal among China's rapidly ageing population in the cities, mainly as a way for them to stay healthy and also to maintain a sense of community in a highly urbanised living environment.

The dances take place in venues ranging from parks and public squares to parking lots. They take a variety of forms, from traditional folk dances to improvised routines set to patriotic songs, saccharine pop and sanitized rap.

This viral video had many netizens in awe of the agility and dance skills displayed by the elderly man, as well as the little girls. Some even found previous videos of the same man dancing with another young girl.

Translation: It's so nice to see a grandfather dancing with his little granddaughters.
