Just days after news that Amos Yee is making new video projects from the U.S., he is already working on other new initiatives.

On Nov. 9, Yee announced on his YouTube channel that he will give a talk at Harvard organised by the Harvard College Open Campus Initiative on Nov. 13, 6PM (EST):

What is Harvard College Open Campus Initiative?

It is a student-run organisation at Harvard College that was established last November. According to their Facebook bio, they are "advocates of free and open expression".

"The Harvard College Open Campus Initiative exists to encourage a diverse discourse on Harvard's campus, and to push back against ideological forces in academia, and in society more broadly, that hinder open discussion and freedom of speech.

We want to confront important issues head on, and give Harvard students the opportunity to engage with them through rational debate."

Event description

According to the event page on Harvard College Open Campus Initiative's Facebook, this the description of the event:

"****THIS IS A LOTTERIED EVENT****

We are excited to announce that HCOCI will be hosting Amos Yee this coming Monday at 6 PM in Science Centre Hall E.

Yee first came to international attention in 2015 when he was sentenced to jail in Singapore after releasing videos that were critical of the country’s late prime minister, Lee Kuan Yew. Only 19 years old, he self-identifies as an anarcho-communist.

In September of this year, Yee was granted political asylum in the United States. We look forward to a brief discussion of Yee’s background and story, followed by an open conversation with students."

Yee's first public talk

In Yee's video announcement, he mentioned that he has never done any public talk before, which makes this his first.

According to him, the event will be a free one and open to public.

Additionally, he emphasised that the talk will not be a speech where people just passively listen to him. Instead, he said that it will be a discussion, of which it will be "80-90 percent Q&A".

He also mentioned in the video that the Harvard representatives paid for his travel and accommodation expenses.

Prior to this announcement of the talk, Yee has been actively making video updates this week on his life in America, with no lack of his contempt for the Singapore government.

Yee was granted US asylum in Sept. this year.
