Lobster, pork, & black chicken briyani in Woodlands from S$8

The store is not halal.

Banana Leaf Pork Briyani is an Indian food stall in Woodlands known for selling rainbow pratas.

More importantly, they have pork briyani.

And lobster briyani.

And black chicken briyani.

While they are not the first in Singapore to use pork as the main star of a briyani dish (Chinatown also has a stall with modernised siew yoke/ char siew pork renditions of it), Banana Leaf's version sticks to the traditional cooking method that uses curry and spices.

A plate of pork briyani costs S$8, which is a little pricier than other options out there.

The dish has received mixed reviews, with some customers commenting that the pork is tough and not well-marinated. On the other hand, people who liked it found the pork tender and flavourful.

Both camps agree that the portions are huge, though.

The Black Chicken Briyani is also S$8, and is similarly cooked with traditional spices:

The store owners wanted something different from the typical black chicken, which is usually found as a soup dish.

Lobster Briyani, which was only introduced recently, is more expensive at S$24.

Note that the briyanis are only available from 11.30am, so time your visit.
