Online sleuths in Singapore are claiming they have found out exactly where President Halimah Yacob is moving to: Bournemouth Road.

At least three photos circulating online on Oct. 7, 2017 showed a three-storey detached house along Bournmouth Road with a Gurkha guard presence and a newly-erected security post outside.

At least one Facebook post even put up the exact address.

Origin of claims

The origins of the claim that President Halimah will be moving into the Bournemouth Road house supposedly stemmed from residents in the area who noticed the new arrangements being set up.

A message accompanying the photos in circulation read:

"My friend that lives opposite says heavy police presence.

All cars are screened.

And some neighbours have been interviewed."

Bournemouth Road is located in Mountbatten SMC.

Photos authentic

To verify the authenticity of the claims, The Online Citizen popped by the exact location and witnessed first-hand the guard post has been set up and the house is protected by two Gurkha soldiers.

The president has apparently not moved in yet as TOC said there were people fixing up the place with furniture being moved in.

Without citing any sources, TOC also said this Bournemouth Road property is not owned by President Halimah or her family and it is not a property of the Singapore government.

Other unverified online speculation even claimed the house is being rented to be used as a presidential residence.

President moving out of Yishun flat but not into Istana

On Oct. 2, 2017, it was announced that President Halimah Yacob will be moving out of her Yishun Avenue 4 flat, citing security challenges.

A Ministry of Home Affairs press release said the security recommendation is for the president to move after assessing the situation and the president agreed to make arrangements to move out to a new place soon.

But the new location was not disclosed and it is not the Istana.

This latest update regarding where President Halimah would move to comes just five days after it was announced she would be leaving her Yishun flat.

We have contacted MHA for comments and will update this article when we hear back.

Previous speculation

Prior to this latest gossip about President Halimah's living arrangements, it was speculated online in forums and via chat messengers that she would be moving to Fifth Avenue in Bukit Timah.

But there was no evidence to suggest this is true.

This rumour was promptly debunked after TOC checked with the Singapore Land Authority property ownership records and dropped by the location, but found no compelling evidence of a new presidential residence in the area, unlike this Bournemouth Road place.
