Let's look at the glass half-full scenario for Minister Tan Chuan-Jin, who has been nominated by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong as the next Speaker of Parliament.

Order of Precedence

According to the Order of Precedence in Singapore, a list to dictate ceremonial protocol at events of a federal or national nature, Tan will be fourth in line after the next President.

In terms of protocol, Tan will be ranked after Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong; Deputy Prime Ministers Teo Chee Hean and Tharman Shanmugaratnam; and Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon.

This list is based on a 1967 Straits Times article that reported about the official order of precedence which was gazetted.
