Black cat stuck in Bukit Batok West letterbox let out by SingPost officer

It most likely sneaked in when the postman was delivering mail.

A black cat was found stuck inside a letterbox on Friday, Sept. 8 at about 1pm.

Nurhayati Hashim, 22, was on her way home when she heard mewing sounds coming from the letterbox at Block 169, Bukit Batok West Avenue 8.

The letterbox was locked.

Unit's tenant did not have key

The Straits Times reported that Nurhayati approached the unit's tenant for help to open the letterbox.

However, the letterbox could not be opened as the flat's tenant did not have the key at that time. The tenant was tending to the flat for someone else.

Nurhayati then called SingPost for help and an Inspector of Post responded immediately.

He arrived at the scene around 1.30pm to open the letterbox to release the black cat.

Multiple calls made

However, ST did not mention the multiple calls Nurhayati had to make before help arrived.

She first called the town council for help, only to be directed to contact SingPost.

SingPost then told her to call HDB, which then informed her to contact the town council.

In the end, she called the police, and together with the police, after they got involved, contacted SingPost.

How it got there?

A few theories have been proposed as to how the cat got stuck.

But the most probable is that the cat must have sneaked into the lowest letterbox shelf when the postman was making a mail delivery after using the master key to open the entire column of letterboxes.

As seen in the second video when the cat was let out, the entire column of letterboxes can be opened for the mail delivery person to access all letterboxes across multiple units.

And as all cat owners can attest, cats have a tendency to climb into new or concealed areas unannounced, such as into the washing machine or among a pile of clothes.

And then proceed to get stuck or pounce on you unannounced.
