Jennifer Yeo, lawyer and wife of Singapore's former foreign minister George Yeo, has been diagnosed with a rare cancer.

According to Mr Yeo, in further details shared with Mothership, Mrs Yeo developed a tumour in her left ethmoidal sinus (one of the air spaces in the area between your mouth and brain), which turned out to be a rare type of nasal cancer called Sinonasal Undifferentiated Carcinoma.

The only symptom she had, said Mr Yeo, was a loss of her sense of smell.

Thankfully, though, they acted on it and eventually, Mrs Yeo was diagnosed about three weeks ago, and on the night of her birthday in the second half of July, the Yeos flew to Houston for her to start chemotherapy and chemo-radiotherapy at the MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Mr Yeo also told Mothership it's likely they will stay there for the coming months, although doctors are "cautiously optimistic".

Two of their four children are working out of Houston so they can be with Mrs Yeo, while the other two, alongside Mrs Yeo's famous electric-guitar-twanging mother Mary Ho, will visit when they are able, adds Mr Yeo.

He adds:

"Jennifer and I thank SGH (Singapore General Hospital) and NUH (National University Hospital) doctors for all their help and advice.  We also thank everyone for their good wishes."
