Crocodile sightings in Singapore are not uncommon.
You may have heard of the stubby-tailed crocodile in the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. Or perhaps the crocodile that lurks within Sungei Sembawang.
Easties, you need to look out when you go for your daily jog along Pasir Ris Beach.
Because there's a new crocodile in town.
Someone named Id Za posted the following photos in a post to the Nature Society (Singapore's) Facebook page.
In case you can't see it, the (very nicely taken) photos are below.
Although there's some speculation from members of the Society that it's a saltwater crocodile...
The long, narrow jaw of the creature would suggest that it's a false gharial, a reptile very closely related to the crocodile and native to Southeast Asia.
This is not the first time that crocodiles (or gharials) have been spotted in Pasir Ris specifically.
In 2008, The New Paper published an account of a crocodile hooked by two fishermen.

As always, please remember that these beasts can be dangerous if approached and provoked. But also please don't try to be a hero and go after them with a parang.
Crocodiles and gharials are facing extinction due to the loss of their natural habitats, pollution, and hunting.
It would be a shame if we lose what makes Singapore a concrete jungle entirely.
