Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is away on a working visit to Germany from July 6 to 11 at the invitation of German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Besides meeting Chancellor Merkel, PM Lee will attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit from July 7-8 and meet US President Donald J Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the summit.

In the summit at Hamburg, PM Lee will participate in discussions on global economic growth, trade and finance, digitalisation and jobs, as well as other global challenges such as climate change and public health.

What is G-20 Summit?

The G-20 Summit is a summit that comprises of the world's 20 largest developed and developing economies.

While Singapore is not a member of the G-20, Singapore is invited to participate as a representative of the Global Governance Group (3G).

The 3G is an informal group of 30 small and medium-sized countries which aims to promote greater transparency and inclusivity in the G-20 process.

This is the seventh time Singapore is participating at the summit.

Meeting hotel-less Donald Trump

PM Lee spoke to President Trump on the phone last December to congratulate him on winning the US presidential elections.

He also invited Trump and his family to visit Singapore.

Apparently, President Trump forgot to book a hotel room for the G-20 summit, BuzzFeed reported Thursday.

It’s unclear where Trump will be sleeping, but the Associated Press (AP) reported that he’ll stay at the official Senate guest house in Hamburg. His staff will stay at the US Consulate General in the city.

According to observers, Trump's body language showed that he was the one initiating and he offered his hand -- palm up, rather than palm down to be on top.

PM Lee, strong handshake for your meeting with Trump please. And stare at him directly in the eye, like a leader of a bigger state.
