Bieber's statement said:

"Justin loves his fans and hates to disappoint them."

"He is grateful and honoured to have shared that experience with his cast and crew for over 150 successful shows across six continents during this run. However, after careful consideration he has decided he will not be performing any further dates."

The 23-year-old Canadian singer started touring for his Purpose album in March 2016 and has performed more than 150 shows across Europe, Africa, South America, Australia and parts of Asia.

A few days earlier, China banned Bieber from performing in the mainland due to bad behaviour, Beijing's Municipal Bureau of Culture said.

The state office added that the singer needed to improve his conduct to become a singer "truly loved" by the public.

No specific behaviour was cited for causing offense.
