Good news, A&W lovers.
The American fast food joint has confirmed they are returning to Singapore after a 14-year absence.
In 2003, they closed all five outlets in Singapore, which was attributed to corporate instability and poor sales.
In an email exchange with Yahoo Lifestyle Singapore, Kevin Bazner, A&W CEO, confirmed that the company is planning to expand their chain of restaurants to Southeast Asia, with plans to open outlets in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and of course, Singapore.
Fans can expect to see 30 to 40 new restaurants opening per year between the four countries.
If you're cynical about an email being any serious indication of the franchise's return, A&W has an office here since 2016 to prepare for this expansion.
Bazner added that the company is currently looking for "real estate for a flagship company restaurant in Singapore” -- in other words, they're looking to open a flagship restaurant here which they say will serve as a training store for Southeast Asia.
If all goes well, fans can hope to visit their local A&W here next year.
They're hoping to open a franchise restaurant in the later half of 2018, after opening their first location.
One thing's for sure -- we can't wait to have our frosty cold root beer and curly fries back in Singapore.
By the way, A&W stands for “Allen and Wright”.
