Derrick Wong is a nature enthusiast and his Instagram account shows it.
The photographer features many majestic members of the avian family, both in Jurong Bird Park and their natural environments such as Chinese Garden, Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, and Bukit Batok Nature Park.
His latest photo is that of a baby Grey-Rumped Treeswift in Ang Mo Kio that looks strangely like a mop:
Their nests are made with hardened saliva interspersed with feathers, mosses and/or flakes of tree bark.
Another photo of a yawning baby bird that was found in Singapore Botanical Gardens, this time a Large-Tailed Nightjar that fellow bird lovers will insist is ugly but adorable:
The bird is known among Malaysians to visit cemeteries at night, and is hence tagged with the name "graveyard nightjar".
This Red Crested Turaco posing punk with its mohawk from Jurong Bird Park:
This bird has a call that sounds similar to a jungle monkey.
And a dandy-looking Golden Breasted Starling sitting pretty in a tree in Jurong Bird Park with its vest:
Its feeds mostly on insects and termites, and can even catch insects mid-flight.
Last but not least, the majestic Red Junglefowl. All chickens in the world are descended from this species native to Singapore.
