Punggol residents, rejoice.

The completion date for the North East Line extension has been brought seven years forward to 2023, from the original deadline of 2030, to match the urban development of Punggol North.

Punggol North's developments will include the Punggol Digital District (which houses digital and cyber- security industries), the new Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) campus, and of course Built-To-Order (BTO) flats.

The new MRT station is tentatively called Punggol Coast Station and will facilitate commuters by cutting their travelling time to town by 10 to 15 minutes.

The Land Transport Authority will be calling for tenders this month, and work on the station is expected to commence in the first half of 2018.
